Herpetofauna: One Life's List

Engystomops pustulosus
Tungara Frog

El Valle de Anton, Panama
June 2, 2015

It was the low call, like a whining dog, that drew me to the small pond.  I didn't know what manner of frog possessed such a noise, but seeing a number of foam nests out on the water gave me a clue.  From there it was a matter of wading into the pond and waiting quietly for one of the male Tungara Frogs to surface and resume calling.
