Herpetofauna: One Life's List

Heterodon kennerlyi
Mexican Hognose Snake

Val Verde Co., Texas. May 23, 1997

This little Hognose was crossing the Pandale Dirt Road just as the setting sun touched the hills to the west. The Mexican Hognose supposedly feigns death less often than other kinds of Hognoses; this one however, promptly rolled over and gave a stellar performance.
