Herpetofauna: One Life's List

Thecadactylus rapicauda
Turnip-tailed Gecko

Loreto Province, Peru
January 10, 2011

Found near the Madre Selva field station on the Rio Orosa.  This was the largest of several rapicauda found during our stay.  Interestingly enough, there is a cryptic species (Thecadactylus solimoensis) living alongside T. rapicauda, which has a slightly different set of morphological characteristics (see the Comments section in the Reptile Database's entry for T. solimoensis).
