Herpetofauna: One Life's List

Ambystoma rosaceum rosaceum
Tarahumara Salamander

Sonora, Mexico
August 21, 2011

"Was that a salamander back there?" I wondered.  I whipped a U-turn and headed back down the highway, opening my door for a closer look.  It was a salamander, a life form I hadn't considered as a possibility on this trip to Mexico.  Add to the fact that we were in the mountains, and at 4600 feet!  The ambystomid was badly injured, and had to be euthanized the following day.
