Herpetofauna: One Life's List

Pituophis catenifer sayi
Bullsnake

Kankakee Co., Illinois.
September 9, 1996

It took a couple trips up to the sand counties of northeastern Illinois, but I finally found a Bullsnake, several in fact.  Details of my adventure can be found in the herp journal Bullsnake In A Bottle.  The top photo at right is my first Bullsnake; the bottom is a fine Kansas specimen. Since that first Bully I've managed to find them in Colorado, Texas, Kansas, and Wisconsin. Regardless of locality they are impressive animals, in particular the six footers as thick as your wrist!
