Florida Green Water Snake
Nerodia floridana

Okefenokee Swamp, Georgia. March 1978.

I saw several specimens of this species on a canoe trip through the Okefenokee Swamp.  On both occasions the snakes were basking in bushes, several feet above the water, and I was able to get quite close to them without disturbing them.  A return to Okefenokee in 2003 failed to produce any specimens; I'd like to get a good picture of one and will try again in the fall of 2004.
